EVERY SATISFYINGPAIR HAS A STORYWORTH KNOWING
Issue 147 · June 12 · The Hidden History of the Air Ship
Sneakers stopped being just shoes somewhere around 1984.
The moment Michael Jordan laced up a pair of Air Ships in his fifth NBA game and the league responded with a fine notice — describing them only as "red and black NIKE basketball shoes" — Nike saw an ambiguity worth exploiting. That reframing launched a myth. The myth launched a culture. The culture launched a secondary market now worth billions. And most of the media covering it missed the origin entirely.
Deadstock started as a notebook. A collector's attempt to document what the glossy sites weren't writing: the tooling decisions, the colorway research, the auction-room drama, the StockX spreads that signal a cultural shift three months before the hype arrives. Every issue is that notebook, formatted and dispatched weekly.
